GENERAL FAQS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When are you open?

We are open all year round, rain or shine.  We are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, open Thursday through Monday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Do I (my group) need a reservation? DO YOU TAKE WALK-INS?

We do take Walk-ins and while we do not require reservations, we recommend them – especially on weekends.  And we recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.  Wait times for walk-in guests can sometimes be in excess of an hour or more.  Guests with reservations are taken before walk-ins.  Occasionally we are forced to suspend taking walk-ins when the wait time to shoot gets too long.

Our booking system allows reservations 21 days into the future.  If the time slot you want is grayed out, it means that time is fully booked or not available yet.  When you are booking, the number of available slots for that time period will be visible when you hit the drop-down arrow for size of your group.  The highest number listed is the most slots still available.  Online booking is only available for groups up to 18 people.  For larger groups, email us at groupsales@sunsetrange.com.

If I make a reservation, will I start shooting at that time?
We make every attempt to get you out on the range with your Instructor within 15 minutes of your booked time, conditions permitting. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow for the check-in process. If your appointment is for 4 PM and you are late, you may not be able to enter the range – depending on how many people are waiting.  Since we do not set time limits on how long you can shoot, it is difficult to have Instructors available on extremely busy days.  Rest assured, customers with appointments are taken ahead of walk-ins.  Please be patient.
Are your shooting bays indoors or outdoors?
All of our shooting bays are outdoors, under a covered pavilion and some bays are heated.  We are open rain or shine.  We only close in cases of extreme weather or when it is extremely cold.  Your safety is our number 1 priority.  If you have any concerns about weather, you can always check our website for range status or simply give our store a call.
What should I wear?
We want our guests to dress comfortably, but any clothing that creates a hazard, dangerous distraction or causes offense to other guests and/or staff is strictly prohibited at Sunset Hill Shooting Range. This includes clothing with offensive writing or images. Tennis shoes or other closed-toe shoes are recommended on the shooting range as is a properly (forward) facing billed (ball) cap.  We reserve the right to refuse business to anyone dressed in a manner deemed inappropriate or offensive by SHSR staff.
Can I bring small children?
No.  Unfortunately, children under the age of 8 are not permitted out on the range.  Since it is difficult to properly fit a young child with effective hearing protection, there is the possibility they may experience hearing damage.  There is a small viewing area inside the store where small children may observe, as long as they are attended at all times by a parent or guardian over the age of 21.
My children are over 8 years of age. What can they shoot?
On our Rental Gallery, children 8 years and older can shoot our Air Guns.  Long guns (rifles and shotguns) are available to children over 13 years of age.  16 years and older can shoot handguns and full auto is only available to 18 years and older.  Full auto is only available on our Rental Gallery.  Full auto is NOT permitted on the Private Member Range.
Is there anything else that can prevent me from entering the range?
Your safety and the safety of our employees and other customers are always our first priority.   If you appear intoxicated, or otherwise impaired, you will not be allowed to enter the range.  The Rangemaster has the sole authority to determine your fitness.
I’m pregnant. Can I shoot or observe?
No.  Shooting firearms exposes you to lead and extreme sound levels, both of which are dangerous to your unborn child.
Will I have to sign a waiver?

Yes, anyone who wishes to enter the range must complete our Liability Waiver prior to checking in. This includes all shooters, minors, and observers. We recommend completing our waiver before arriving at http://www.sunsetrange.com. You can also complete the waiver in store. The Liability Waiver is a legally binding document and must be filled out with your legal name as it appears on your ID, as well as your accurate phone number and email address. If any of the information supplied on the waiver does not match your ID, you will be required to complete the waiver again. (During the waiver process, you can opt out of receiving any marketing contacts from us. We do not sell our customer information to third parties.)

Do I need to bring my ID? If so, what types of ID do you accept?
Yes, you must have a valid, government-issued photo ID to enter the range, regardless of whether you are shooting or just observing.  You must physically bring the ID with you.  Student ID’s are NOT acceptable.  Photos, copies, images, texts, emails, camera cards, etc. are NOT acceptable.   Expired ID’s are NOT acceptable.  If you have a valid address change form, you must also have the corresponding unexpired ID.

We accept these forms of identification:

Government-Issued Photo ID
Government-Issued Driver’s License
Government-Issued Passport
US Work Visa

What ID’s do minors need? My child looks younger than his age.
Minors under the age of 18 must have an adult 21 years or older to complete their Liability Waiver and that adult must accompany the minor(s) at all times while on our property.  No ID is required for minors, however, if your child looks younger than his / her actual age, you may want to bring their birth certificate.  Since safety is our number one concern, if your child appears younger than his / her actual age, they may not be permitted to shoot.  The Rangemaster or the Store Manager have the final decision on whether a child can shoot.
Do you offer Private Instruction or Training Classes?
Yes.  We offer both.  Private Instruction can be purchased in half hour increments at the time of your visit (based on Instructor availability) or you can schedule one on one instruction in advance, based on your needs and specific firearms.  We also offer formal Instructor-led classroom training on the many aspects of firearms and firearms safety.  Our curriculum includes NRA and USCCA certificate and non-certificate courses.  For a complete list of current classes, or to sign up, click the Training tab on our website.
I have a history of mental illness or a past felony. Am I allowed on the range?
No.  You are not allowed on the range with a history of mental illness or a past felony either as a shooter or observer.
Can I bring my own safety gear?
Yes, you may bring your own safety gear, provided it is safety rated equipment, specifically designed for shooting sports.  We do not accept headphones or sunglasses as safety gear.  We also sell eye and ear protection for a nominal fee.  See the Rental Gallery Price List for details.
I have a large group. What is the largest group you can accommodate?
We allow groups of all sizes for both our Rental Gallery and Private Member Range.  Online booking is available for groups up to 18 people.  We offer an array of options for larger groups than is unmatched at other shooting ranges.  During normal business hours, we can accommodate groups up to 50.  For example, larger groups can rent the entire range during normally closed hours.  We will be happy to discuss your specific needs when you email us at groupsales@sunsetrange.com.
Do you offer any packages for special occasions, such as Bachelor / Bachelorette parties?
Yes.  Our VIP Experience is the perfect way to celebrate that special occasion.  Each package is catered specifically to your group.  And our VIP Experience offers a selection of firearms not available anywhere else.  So, if you’d like to skip the long lines and be treated like the VIP you are, email us at groupsales@sunsetrange.com.
I filled out a waiver the last time I was here, do I need to fill out another one?

If you filled out a waiver within the last six (6) months and none of your important information (name, address, legal status, etc.) has changed, you will not be required to fill out a new waiver. At times throughout the year, however, when we make changes to our waiver, everyone is required to fill out a new waiver, regardless of how long it has been since they last completed one.
